Description
TNBT is a type of very lively primary alcohol titanium oxide, hydrolyzes when contacts with moisture in air.TNBT is mainly used as catalyst in esterification reaction or transesterification, also be used as catalyst of polyolefin. It can be used to assist the adherence and crosslink of resin having alcohol group or carboxy group, be used in heat resistant and corrosion resistant coating. It can also be used in manufacture of glass and glass fiber. TNBT can only be used in oil system.
Applications
REACTION CATALYST: TNBT is used as a Lewis acid catalyst for esterification, transesterification,
condensation and addition reactions, or as a Ziegler-Natta catalyst for polymerizations. Typical reaction products include (meth)acrylic esters, polyester, plasticizer, various esters and polyurethanes. Benefits include elimination of byproducts, increased yield, easy work-up, low catalyst concentration and low toxicity.
COATINGS :Glass, metals, fillers and pigments can be treated with TnBT to increase surface hardness, promote adhesion, improve resistance to heat, chemicals, corrosion and scratches, add iridescence or coloring effects or enhance light reflection.
PAINTS: TnBT is useful as a binder and also can be used as an adhesion promoter or cross-linker for –OH functional polymers and other binders in paints.
TIO2 PIGMENT AND FILMS:Micro- or nano-scale TiO2 pigments can be formed from TnBT, which also can also be used to create polymeric TiO2 films on surfaces via pyrolytic or hydrolytic (e.g. sol-gel) processes.

Tetrabutyl titanate(Cas 5593-70-4) Usage

Air & Water Reactions

Soluble in water. Reacts with water to form butanol and titanium dioxide, the reaction is not generally thought to be hazardous.

Health Hazard

LIQUID: Irritating to skin and eyes. If swallowed will cause nausea and vomiting.

Fire Hazard

Combustible. Containers may explode in fire. May give off dense white smoke. Containers may explode.

Flammability and Explosibility

Flammable

Safety Profile

Suspected carcinogen. A poison by intravenous route. Moderately toxic by ingestion. See n-BUTYL ALCOHOL and TITANIUM COMPOUNDS. Flammable when exposed to heat or flame. To fight fire, use water, spray, foam, dry chemical. Incompatible with oxidizing materials. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid and irritating fumes.

Purification Methods

Dissolve it in *C6H6, filter if solid is present, evaporate and vacuum fractionate through a Widmer 24inch column (p 11). The ester hydrolyses when exposed to air to give hydrated ortho-titanic acid. The titanium content can be determined thus: weigh a sample (ca 0.25g) into a weighed crucible and cover it with 10mL of H2O and a few drops of conc HNO3. Heat (hot plate) carefully till most of the H2O has evaporated. Cool and add more H2O (10mL) and conc HNO3 (2mL), and evaporate carefully (no spillage) to dryness and ignite the residue at 600-650o/1hour. Weigh the residual TiO2. [Bradley et al.
